Merry Christmas Shaker Card - Inlaid Dimensional Die Cuts and STAMPtember!
Hey everyone! Happy STAMPtember! Simon Says Stamp is having a month long stamping party with new releases, exclusive collaborations, prizes, surprises and more. AND I'm so happy to be sharing a project featuring one of the newest dies from the Simon Says Stamp STAMPtember release, the Merry Christmas Ornament die. I'll have more projects featuring products from the STAMPtember release all throughout the month....and I promise, not all of them will be Christmas themes.
I knew when I saw this beautiful and intricate die that I wanted to have it as the focal point of my card. And I knew I wanted to draw attention to it by adding lots of dimension. I created this shaker card, with an inlaid dimensional die cut.
Adding dimension to a die cut this intricate can be a little tricky...and you'll see in today's video tutorial that I had to try a few things to find the right recipe for making this work. But in the end, I was able to achieve the look I was going for...and it was rather simple. My first idea was to layer the die cut up several times to create dimension, a technique that I've used a lot in the past. But this intricate die cut, with all it's tiny areas was very hard to align. In the end I used card stock backed with some Fun Foam. I added the foam to the card stock prior to cutting and I got a clean cut and lots of dimension.
To add a little interest to the card, I cut my card front using the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangle dies and some woodgrain textured card stock. I used the largest of the rectangle dies. The stitched detail adds a little somethin' somethin' to the edge of the card and yet still allows the ornament to take center stage. And I love how the woodgrain textured card stock adds a classic touch.
I added a healthy mix of Pretty Pink Posh sequins in my shaker card. I mixed a variety of sizes of Gold, Raspberry, and Sparkling Clear sequins. I also added some silver seed beads to the shaker. In real life, this card really sparkles. I also accented the card front with more sequins, some Hero Arts gemstones and some mini jingle bells, along with a gold bow made from some DMC Light Gold Thread.
I've included a video tutorial below, walking you through the creation of this card. I've also left included some of the trail and error process that I went through to find the perfect technique for adding lots of dimension to this intricate die cut.

Simon Says Stamp was founded in 2002 with an interest in exclusively selling rubber stamps. However, it didn’t take long until we became a One Stop Shop. Now STAMPtember is so much more than stamps! This year you'll also see a focus on many other exciting products like dies, inks, notecards and some special surprises. Our intention is to enhance your stamping experience! Rubber stamps still remain the heart of our business, and we are celebrating by releasing exclusive products with many of the industry's finest brands. Be sure to visit our Blog as the home base for the festivities! Trust me when I tell you that the excitement this year is over the TOP, and we are planning fun surprises to keep you on your toes all month long!
