Mahalo - Copic Coloring On Vellum
Hi everyone! As a lot of you may know, I just came back from Hawaii a few weeks ago and I MUST still have Hawaii on the brain. When I saw this Stay Fresh stamp set from Avery Elle, I just knew I had to use it. Pineapples are everywhere in design right now and I'm totally crushing on them. I knew when I saw this pineapple that I wanted it to take center stage. I also knew without a doubt that I needed to emboss it in gold. I thought it would be even more fun to emboss it on gold on some vellum. I used my favorite Essentials By Ellen vellum to stamp and emboss my pineapple. I love this look.
After I stamped and embossed my image, I used Copic markers to color. I colored on the back side of the vellum because Copic markers will break down the embossing powder. You can also achieve a much smoother look on the vellum by coloring on the back side. Remember, that your colors will be muted by the vellum, so you may have to use stronger colors than if you were coloring on regular cardstock. I also added some Wink Of Stella Clear Glitter Brush to the front of my pineapple to give it some sparkle and pizzazz.
To create a back drop for my pineapple, I used a variety of techniques. I used masking, ink blending and stamping to add texture and color. This creates a grounding place for my image. I chose to do this with stamps and inking, but patterned paper is also another option for creating a place to ground your focal image.
I chose the fabulous tan woodgrain embossed paper from Ellen Hutson for my card base. I love the texture that this adds, without making the card base too busy. This paper is also available in white. I love both. With the fall season just around the corner, I'm sure these papers will be getting even more use.
When I put it all together, I felt like my pineapple needed one final touch. I added the tiniest of tags to the pineapple. Not everyone will get my pun here (my best friend certainly didn't), but I wrote the word DOLL organic. It was my attempt to be punny and play off of the Dole idea. So maybe you get it and maybe you don't, but I thought it was cute. :) I love this itty bitty tag from the Studio Calico tags die set. It was the perfect accent to add to my adorable pineapple.
