Adding Shading With Colored Pencils - Altenew’s 3rd Anniversary Blog Hop & Giveaway

When I saw the Simple Flowers stamp set from Altenew, I knew I wanted to use these fun and funky flowers.  With bold, solid images like these, it's easy for them to fall a little flat when stamping them using just one ink color.  I'm going to add a little shading and dimension to these flowers with some colored pencils. 

I stamped lots and lots of these flowers in different colors.  I chose some colored pencils that are just slightly darker than the ink colors I chose to add shading.  I'll add the darkest color around the edge of the flower and then lighten my stroke as I move in to create a soft fade of the colored pencil into the stamped ink color.  I'm using Prismacolor pencils today, but you can try this with any colored pencils you may have. 

Once I had colored all of my images, I used my scissors to cut them out. 

I arranged these pieces on top of some card fonts I stamped using the Halftone Circles stamp set.  This is another set that I just knew I had to have. 

All of the ink colors I'm using today are from Altenew.  They have a fabulous line of inks and some of my favorite!  Current favorites are Mountain Mist and Volcano Lake.  LOVE!
